Welcome Grow Kit Participants!
This page is designed to support participants in Greentech Rising’s Hydroponic Grow Kit Program-a pilot project providing 100 Pittsburgh residents with indoor hydroponic grow kits, seeds, nutrients, and hands-on education to grow produce at home. Thank you Food Justice Fund for making this program possible!

The materials on this page were developed using lessons learned from Greentech Rising’s Food Justice Fund-supported pilot program. They reflect real experiences, common questions, and best practices gathered from working directly with community members.
This webpage will continue to grow just like your plants. New videos, guides, and resources will be added over time to support you at every stage of your growing journey.

Facts about Hydroponics
What is hydroponics?
Hydroponics is a way of growing plants without soil. Instead, plants grow in water that is enriched with nutrients they need to thrive. This method allows plants to grow faster, use less water, and stay healthier because nutrients are delivered directly to the roots.
What is an indoor hydroponic grow tower?
An indoor hydroponic grow tower is a vertical system that lets you grow multiple plants in a small space inside your home. Systems like the LetPot Max circulate nutrient-rich water through the tower and use built-in LED grow lights to support plant growth year-round. Grow towers are designed to be efficient, compact, and easy to use with no backyard or garden beds required.
What can I grow?
Hydroponic grow towers are ideal for leafy greens and herbs such as lettuce, kale, spinach, basil, mint, cilantro, and arugula. Some systems can also support smaller fruiting plants like cherry tomatoes or peppers. The grow kits provided through this program include recommended seeds to help ensure success, especially for first-time growers.
Is it easy to set up and use?
Yes! Indoor grow towers are designed with beginners in mind. Most systems can be set up in under an hour and include automated watering and lighting to simplify daily care. This resource library will guide you step by step, from setup to harvest, and help you troubleshoot common questions along the way.
